Edgar Longstaffe

Edgar Longstaffe was an oil painter of landscapes during the latter half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Longstaffe was originally born near Derby, yet his work took him Europe-wide. Despite painting at the height of industrialisation, his rural landscapes offer a sense of peace and serenity quite opposite to the landscape from which he grew up in.

On top of being an accomplished artist during his own lifetime - having exhibited six paintings at the royal academy - Longstaffe’s work has subsequently been reproduced in the form of postcards which have become valued collectable items.
